En principio, un total de 138 pilotos de 33 países estarán presentes en la línea de salida del Dakar 2019 en Lima el próximo 7 de enero, para cubrir las 10 etapas de las que se compone la 41ª edición del raid más famoso del mundo, todas ellas en territorio peruano hasta volver a la misma capital el 17 de enero.

España será el país más representado con hasta 22 pilotos, por los 19 de Francia y los 12 de Holanda; en una edición con presencia de países exóticos como Botswana o Mongolia. Estos son los pilotos por país:

Hay representación de los cinco continentes, con mayoría absoluta de los pilotos europeos, que son un total de 89 por los 33 americanos (27 sudamericanos y seis norteamericanos), ocho asiáticos, cuatro oceánicos y tres africanos.
De los inscritos hay hasta siete con la etiqueta de ‘Legend’: el portugués Paulo Gonçalves, el español Joan Pedrero, los eslovacos Stefan Svitko e Ivan Jakes, el peruano Carlo Vellutino, el francés Willy Jobard y el serbio Gabor Saghmeister.
En cuanto a las categorías, se dividen en dos: Élite y no élite. Los pilotos élite son el Grupo 1 y llevan la placa del número en color amarillo, mientras que el resto entran en el grupo 2, llevan el número sobre fondo blanco y se dividen en dos grupos: Súper Production –que pueden hacer las mismas modificaciones que los élite- y Marathon, cuyas motos tienen que ser de serie (con al menos 100 unidades producidas) y sólo pueden hacer ciertas modificaciones, no pudiendo tocar partes como el motor, el chasis, las horquillas o el basculante. En este 2019 habrá 19 pilotos en la categoría Élite, 76 en Súper Production y 42 en Marathon.
Hasta 50 serán debutantes, mientras que un total de 31 competirán en la categoría Original, anteriormente llamada ‘malle moto’ y que consiste en completar la prueba sin asistencia, pudiendo ser sólo ayudados por otros pilotos y con un baúl (‘malle’ en francés) que les transporta la organización donde meter todo lo que necesiten entre una etapa y otra. Entre esos 31 hay cinco españoles: Julián García Merino, Julio García Merino, Sara García, Javier Vega y Javier Álvarez.
Vamos con las motos. Ciñéndonos a la marca que aparece en la ficha de inscripción de cada piloto, el reparto quedaría de la siguiente forma:

Son doce nomenclaturas distintas, pero Hero y Speedbrain son la misma máquina; mientras que AMS es una Husqvarna, por lo que se reducirían a diez. KTM es mayoría absoluta con hasta 81 motos, por las 20 Husqvarna y las 14 de Yamaha. Esas tres marcas tienen presencia oficial, igual que Honda, Sherco TVS y Hero; mientras que la presencia de Beta, Kawasaki, Suzuki y Bosuer se debe a iniciativas privadas.
